5.7 Hemi Engine Overview
Introduced in 2003, the 5.7 Hemi engine was Chrysler’s first return to a v8 engine since the 1980s. The Hemi moniker is a reference to the hemispherical combustion chamber design of the engine, which gives it a unique and powerful sound.
The 5.7 Hemi has been used in a number of Chrysler vehicles over the years, including the Dodge Challenger, Charger, and Ram. It also found its way into some Jeep models as well. In most applications, the 5.7 Hemi produces around 350 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque.
While it’s not the most powerful engine on the market, the 5.7 Hemi is known for its smoothness and reliability. It’s also been praised for its fuel economy, thanks to its efficient design.
If you’re looking for a powerful and reliable engine for your Chrysler vehicle, the 5.7 Hemi is a great option.

Oil For 5.7 Hemi by Mileage
There are a lot of oils on the market, and it can be difficult to choose the best one for your car. When it comes to the 5.7 Hemi engine, there are a few specific things you need to look for.
The first consideration is the mileage of your car. The 5.7 Hemi engine is a high-performance engine, and it needs high-quality oil to run at its best. If you drive a lot of miles each year, you’ll need an oil that can handle those demands. Choosing an oil that’s too light or too thin can lead to engine damage and decreased performance.
On the other hand, if you don’t drive many miles each year, you can get by with a less demanding oil. The Hemi in your car is designed to excel when the engine is under heavy loads for extended periods of time, but there’s no reason why it should be used that way if you only drive a few thousand miles each year. In this case, an oil that provides great protection during normal conditions will do just fine.
The other consideration is your driving habits. If you drive primarily on highways or in stop-and-go traffic, your engine will need more protection because it’s being worked much harder than usual. On the other hand, driving in long-distance travel mode uses far less energy and puts a lot less stress on the Hemi in your 5.7 liter Chrysler 300.
You’ll want to be sure you choose an oil for your engine that meets the specific demands of your driving conditions.

SERVICE INTERVALS

HOW TO CHANGE OIL IN 5.7 Hemi
By the time your 5.7 Hemi needs an oil change, you may wonder if it is even possible to do yourself. The answer is yes! It’s not very complicated and only requires a few basic tools in order to get the job done right in about half an hour.
Getting ready for an oil change in your 5.7 Hemi involves checking the owner’s manual to make sure that this job does not require anything out of the ordinary or any additional steps.
- Warm up engine to operating temperature (bring to normal temp; not too hot). Put on gloves.
- Locate oil filter. It is the round object with straight sides that’s above your oil pan, below where your windshield washer fluid goes in.
- Open the oil filter cap (located at the top of oil filter assembly), and put aside;
- Loosen drain plug (at bottom of oil pan), and remove drain plug;
- Allow old oil to drip for a little bit before collecting it in an approved container (not paper or plastic);
- Clean area around drain plug before installing new one so there are no leaks 24 hours later;
- Apply a light coat of oil to the new O-ring on the drain plug, then screw in and tighten;
- Remove oil filter assembly by turning it counter clockwise (lefty loosey). If it’s tight, use a filter wrench or strap wrench;
- Wipe off any old gasket material from the mating surface of the oil filter housing and the engine block;
- Apply a thin coating of clean motor oil to the rubber gasket on the new oil filter, then screw on and tighten hand-tight only (filter wrench not necessary – go easy so you don’t strip threads!);
- Double check that all plugs are tightened properly. Now take a step back and admire your work. Job well done!
Tips
- Replace oil drain plug and make sure you’ve tighten it securely
- Replace only with the new filter
- Always clean everything around after you’ve done the step
- Apply a thin layer of clean engine oil to the gasket of the new filter
- Install new filter and torque to specifications
- Pour in recommended amount of engine oil
- Start engine and check for leaks
- Repeat steps as necessary at scheduled intervals
