So what are the different types of Honda Civic 2020 oil? The Civic uses full synthetic oil, which is ideal for all-around performance. Conventional motor oil should only be used if you plan on doing a lot of short-distance driving; otherwise, it won’t provide adequate protection against wear and tear. Synthetic blend oil is another option that provides better protection with moderate to long-distance driving.

If you do a lot of highway trips, then conventional oil may be best for your Civic 2020 engine because it can handle the constant high speeds and heat cycles better than other types of motor oils.

The most important thing to remember is that using the wrong type of oil or not changing it often enough can lead to decreased performance, damaged parts, and even engine failure.

That’s why it’s so important to use the right type of oil and follow the recommended service intervals for your car. Honda Civic 2020 oil change this guide will help you do just that.

VISCOSITY GRADE

Honda recommends using the oil “Honda Genuine  Full Synthetic Oil” for your car.

If Honda Genuine  Full Synthetic Oil is not available, you may use a viscosity SAE 0W-20 or 5W-20 motor oil any other brand as a temporary replacement.

However, motor oil does not contain the proper additives, and continued use can cause stiffer shifting. Replace as soon as it is convenient.

CAPACITY

The oil capacity for a 1.5 L engine including filter is 3.7 quarts (3.5 liters) whereas, for a 2.0 L engine including filter is 5.7 quarts (5.4 liters).

SPECIFICATION OF OIL

The Civic 2020 is intended to use oil with a viscosity of 0W-20. Honda has chosen this oil to increase fuel economy and reduce emissions. This means that the oil’s temperature must be below 86° F before it can flow easily in order for the engine to operate efficiently.

Once the engine reaches operating temperatures, however, this type of synthetic motor oil provides an excellent level of lubrication and protection against wear throughout its lifespan under most driving conditions.

Any high-quality 0W-20 synthetic oil will work well in the Civic 2020. If an owner chooses to use a different weight or brand of synthetic oil, be sure it is API certified and licensed GL-Four or higher. This will ensure good engine protection.

You can use oil from this list of brands to change your engine oil in the 2020 Honda Civic:

  • Castrol
  • Mobil One
  • Pennzoil
  • Valvoline.

How to Change Oil By Yourself – Step by Step

The following is a step-by-step guide on how to change the oil in your 2020 Honda Civic. The process will be similar for other models of Honda Civics.

Items you’ll need: funnel, jack, lug wrench, socket wrench, new oil filter, and fresh motor oil of the correct weight and viscosity for your vehicle. You can buy these items at any automotive store.

STEP 1: PREP

Park your car on a level surface and set the parking brake. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheels with the lug wrench before jacking up the car.

Place the jack under the frame of the car near one of the fronts or rear wheels (depending on which side you want to change the oil). Raise it slightly, just enough so that there is no pressure on the tire.

Remove one of the wheels with your lug wrench and place a thick piece of wood under it for support. Do this on both sides of your car. Now remove all but one lug nut from each wheel (save these nuts in case you’ll need them later) then pull off the front or rear tires depending on which side you chose earlier.

Take out any excess debris around where you are changing the oil by using some water mixed with dishwashing soap over an old toothbrush if needed too. Make sure not to get anything inside of the engine after cleaning away any dirt or grime.

STEP 2: REMOVE THE COVER

Now locate your oil drain plug and use the socket wrench to remove it from underneath the car.

STEP 3: DRAINING THE OIL

The old oil will flow out of the engine very quickly, so make sure you have a large pan under it before getting started in order to avoid making a mess on your floorboard.

STEP 4: PUT BACK THE DRAIN PLUG

Now rethread the drain plug all of the ways by hand turning clockwise to tighten it securely.

STEP 5: REPLACE THE OIL FILTER

Use some pliers to take off the top part of your new filter then put that aside for now since you won’t need it until later in this process.

After putting all of these items away safely, replace the old dirty filter with a brand-new one using your hands by twisting counterclockwise while holding onto the bottom half firmly in place at the same time when installing a fresh clean replacement.

STEP 6: ADD THE NEW OIL

Reinstall your tire and lug nuts then lower the car back down again onto its wheels evenly using a jack before removing it from under the vehicle after doing so.

Put away tools you used earlier in their proper locations while making sure not to leave any behind.

Take out a funnel, pour new oil into the engine through the hole where the old dirty filter was removed with a small amount at a time until completely filled up with fresh clean replacement motor oil that’s recommended for the 2020 Honda Civic according to the owner’s manual specifications (the important thing is don’t overfill).

Replace the drain bolt when finished or add more if needed depending on how much you remove during the start of the process.

After replacing oil and filter and checking to make sure that all is secure, you can now put your front or rear tire back onto its respective side of the vehicle then lower the car down slowly from the jack before tightening lug nuts securely with a wrench once more.

Make sure not to over-tighten the lug nuts as it could lead to brake rotor damage if done so.

You’re now finished changing your 2020 Honda Civic’s oil by yourself!
