Oil is a major contributor to your engine’s performance and longevity. If you drive the vehicle with insufficient or deteriorated oil, the engine may fail or be damaged. That’s why it’s important to use the right type of oil and change it at the manufacturer-recommended intervals.

Whether you drive a 2018 Honda CRV or another vehicle, it’s important to know what kind of oil your engine takes. The best way to find out is by checking the owner’s manual for the type and weight recommended by your car manufacturer. If you can’t find this information in your owner’s manual, then this article will be helpful for you!

VISCOSITY GRADE

Honda recommends using the oil “Genuine Honda Motor Oil” or Premium-grade of viscosity SAE 0W-20 detergent oil with an API Certification Seal on the container.

You may also use synthetic motor oil if it is labeled with the API Certification Seal and is the specified viscosity grade.

CAPACITY

The oil capacity for a 1.5 L engine including filter is 3.7 quarts (3.5 liters) whereas, for a 2.4 L engine including filter is 4.7 quarts (4.4 liters).

SPECIFICATION OF OIL

The following are some general specifications that you should consider when purchasing your 2018 Honda CRV Oil.

-The oil must come with a seal on the bottle that indicates it’s approved by American Petroleum Institute (API). The API is an organization that tests engine oils and assigns them to various categories. You want an oil labeled as “Energy Conserving” or better yet, “Resource Conserving” which is most effective for fuel economy.

Oil labels are further categorized into three subgroups:

• Normal Service – This type of oil has average protection against viscosity breakdown at high temperatures, oxidation resistance, sludge formation, rust & corrosion control along with acid neutralization properties, etc. These oils have lower levels of antiwear additives compared to other types.

• Special Service – These oils are designed to protect against viscosity breakdown at high temperatures, oxidation resistance, and sludge formation. They have the same level of protection as those found in normal service but with more antiwear additives than what is used by typical engines.

• Extra-Service – This type has all the benefits that come with special service plus it provides better wear control and neutralizes acid even further compared to other types. It also adds extra detergents for superior cleanliness which makes this ideal for heavy-duty equipment such as construction machines and generators.

Oil quality can vary from one brand name oil supplier to another so make sure you check out some reputable suppliers like Byers Honda before settling on a particular product!

You can use oil from this list of brands to change your engine oil in the 2018 Honda CRV:

• Mobil

• Chevron Havoline

• Castrol

2018 Honda CRV Oil Change Intervals

2018-honda-crv-oil-change1

The 2018 Honda CR-V has two different oil change intervals, depending on how you drive the vehicle. If you primarily drive in stop-and-go traffic, the car needs an oil change every six months or sooner. However, if you mostly drive on highways at a constant speed, the car only needs an oil change every year or 12,500 miles.

Also, it is recommended that you go by the maintenance minder system in your vehicle. This will let you know when it’s time for another oil change based on how many miles have been driven since the last one was performed. The maintenance minder icon is located in the odometer display and will be an oil wrench.

Make sure to keep track of your driving habits so that you can get your Honda CR-V serviced on time!

The first step is to jack up the front end of the 2018 Honda CRV and place it on jack stands. You can find these at any auto parts store.

Once the vehicle is in the air, remove the wheel closest to the engine. This will give you better access to the cover and other components you will be working with.

STEP 2: REMOVE THE COVER

Next, using a socket wrench set, remove the bolts that secure the cover in place. There are six bolts in total.

Be careful, as these are easy to strip if you’re not using the right tools or aren’t being patient with them.

With the cover loose and out of your way, find the drain plug for oil on the 2018 Honda CRV under the vehicle next to the frame rail.

Remove this plug using a socket wrench set.

STEP 3: DRAINING THE OIL

As soon as the oil stops flowing, replace the drain plug that you removed in step one with a new washer and torque it down snugly by hand (do not use tools).

STEP 5: REPLACE THE OIL FILTER

After allowing enough time for all of the oil in the engine bay to drain from the last step, insert the new filter into place once there is no more dripping coming from the old one under the car near the steel frame rail line at the bottom front end driver side headlight assembly around the wheel well where brake fluid reservoir lives.

STEP 6: ADD THE NEW OIL

You’re now an expert on how to change your car’s oil!

If you follow these simple steps, changing your oil will be easy-peasy!
