How to Change Oil by Yourself – Step by Step
Why not try changing your own oil! It’s a straightforward process, and in this guide we’ll walk you through it step by step. All you need is a few basic supplies and about an hour of time. So get ready to roll up your sleeves and get dirty – it’s time to change your oil!
Step 1.
The first thing we’re going to do, we’re going to jack up a vehicle or not always blocked the wheels and since we’re going to be working from the front, we’re gonna block the rear wheels.
You’ll need the old filter. And what we love about this vehicle and this oil filter, you can actually screw it off with your hand and the old plug will be right back here and it takes a socket.
That’s all you need a 15 millimeter socket with a ratchet or wrench. But really you can just take this off with a hand. So most likly you don’t need a filter wrench with this.
Step 2.
Remove the oil filter. Don’ forget to place your drain pan and prepare the paper towels.
Make sure the rubber ring is still on the filter, don’t leave anything there.
Then prepare the new filter and put a little oil in. And when you put it back on, just put it back on your hand do not put it on with a filter wrench. If you have a good grip on your hand, just make sure it’s good and tight, keep your rag nearby. Make sure that it’s all in there good and and clean at the same time. Just tighten it back on with your hand.
Step 3.
Remove the drain plug and let the oil drain put. Put the plug back in. Just make sure it’s tightened on real well with your hand before you use a ratchet. We want to put the plug back on and notice there’s no damage. If it doesn’t look good anymore, you may need to replace it. Now you want to wipe off the plug.
Step 4.
Alright and now we’re back on top of the engine and we just want to take off the cap and gotta have it a wipe it around a filler cap. Fill the engine with the fresh oil. Check the oil level and make sure there’s no leak.
