How to Change Oil by Yourself – Step by Step
In this guide, we will walk you through everything you need to know in order to change your car’s oil like a pro.
Step 1.
What ee’re going to do is oil change on 2014 Toyota Camru. And that requires a cartridge insert filter here, and the 0W-20 weight oil. We’re going to a start out by removing the oil cap. Get that out of the way and pull the dipstick and then we’re going to go down below and drain the oil and pull the filter.
Find your oil drain plug, which is going to be a 14 millimeter bolt and just using our ratchet with a 14 millimeter socket.
Step 2.
Then your oil filter housing is near. It’s not the traditional spin on filter. We use a particular tool here. It was made to fit this housing, you got to be careful. You don’t want to damage the housing. It’s a type of plastic and it’s fairly expensive to get another one. So, now we’re going to remove the oil filter housing with a ratchet and an extension and our special housing tool.
Okay, we’re going to put our drain plug bolt back in with a new gasket he’s a 14 millimeter socket.
Step 3.
Now we’re going to put in our new filter insert. The old filter just slides right now, we’re also going to replace the old ring that seals the housing. And that’s easily removed, maybe just a little flat screwdriver like that. Got our new pieces, we’ll put that opening on. Just make sure you get it into the proper groove.
And definitely don’t want to mess that up. And then slide your filter in. Now it’s ready to go back in the vehicle. So now we’re carefully threading our housing back in. And actually, you can see our tool kind of got stuck. That happens, but it’s okay. It’ll come off when printed the other way.
Step 4.
Okay, so now we’re going to fill up our oil using the 0W-20. This oil is changed every 10,000 miles for this Camry.
Step 5.
So now we’re going to reset our maintenance light. And we’re going to reset the light, which in this case, we’re going to turn the key on not start the engine, we’re going to set the odometer to trip a and that’s where it needs to be when you do the actual reset. So, we’re going to turn it back off, and then hold that button and turn the key on again. And actually, I don’t know if we can see that. You can see it’s resetting. There we go. So now we’re good main slide is reset.
