How to Change Oil by Yourself – Step by Step
If you own a 2010 Toyota RAV4, then this guide is for you. In this guide we will walk you through the step by step process of how to change your oil. This process is simple and can be done by anyone with basic mechanical knowledge. So let’s get started!
Step 1.
Firstly, we’re going to do is going to go ahead and remove the oil cap and just set it to the side.
Next thing we’re going to do is going to go ahead and lift up the vehicle and crawl underneath. All right in here underneath the motor, there we have our drain plug, and there we have our oil filter.
Step 2.
So, we’ll go ahead and start with the drain plug. Alright, this will be a size 14 to loosen this up, make sure you have your oil catch panel available and array to clean up all the excessive oil. So, let’s go ahead and break this sucker loose. And what you do is lift up the pan, take off the boat, that way you may want to catch all the oil correctly. So, we’re going to go ahead and do that. Want to have a rag ready so you clean all the accessible.
Then just let all of the oil drain out and just move the catch pan accordingly. So that we catch every single droplet. Perfect time to clean up this bolt. Just go ahead and clean it up with a rag.
Step 3.
Alright, now we’re going to use an extension to crack this loose here. And we’ll go ahead and take that cap off. And just laying up your oil catch pan, because once you remove this cap, it will drain a little bit. Now it does come provided with a plug, we’re going to go ahead and use this plastic. And we’re going to go ahead and shove it into place and oils going to start falling out. There goes just got to do this super quick. You go ahead and do that real quick.
All right, and they brought up the O ring. That’s right there, we have to replace that anyways, it comes with the kit. So now we’re gonna go ahead and open up the filter. And before we do that, we’re gonna go ahead and clean up the surface of the rag. We’re gonna put in the new O ring. And then we’ll go ahead and seal it back up. Put it in, snuck this down. Perfect, not too tight. We’re also going to clean our drain pool and put our play back into place. We’ll go ahead and secure that back down and secure this down. Not too tight. Now let’s go ahead and remove this whole filter from here. We’ve got the tool. And that is simply going to sit right into that and it’s chasing, it’s raining, we chase it down.
Step 4.
We’ll go ahead and drive that sucker out and replace that filter. And there it is, and just have your oil pan ready to catch all the oil that’s about to fall. And just go ahead and trade it into the oil catch pan. Now we’ll just pull this paper filter off my nipple hand. And there it is. We’ll sit this over to the side. Here’s the new one. Put the new one in. We’re gonna replace this ring. Grab a little pick one underneath it. Pull that sucker out. We’ll clean the surface with a rag. We’ll grab the new seal my hands full of oil.
So we’ll fill this up with a little bit of lubricant. And we’ll slide this back into place all the way down till it falls right into that groove just like it is back here.
Now we’re ready to install this filter again. We’ll go ahead and clean our surface all up in it. Alright, make a nice good seal. Go ahead and put in our filter. And we’ll go ahead and secure it with the same tool we use to remove this and go ahead and secure it down not too tight.
Step 5.
Now we’re ready to add our oil. So let’s go ahead and pour mostly all of it in. We’re using 0W-20. Check it out. Like it has no viscosity. It’s just like water. That’s super thin oil. We’ll go ahead and remove our funnel.
Put our cap back into place, now all we have to do is reset the oil life. Well we’re going to do is we’re going to put the key onto the second position. That’s where everything is turned on. Next thing we’re going to do is we’re going to press this little button, and we’re going to make sure that we are on trip a Nexus go ahead and turn this off. We’re going to go ahead and press this button as we go ahead and turn this into the second position. So, we’ll go ahead and push this. And there you turned it, and you could see these little lines flashing, meaning that it’s doing its cycle to reset and it is recent, and that is how you reset the oil life on this 2010 Toyota RAV4.
